Dr. Wayne M. Johnson
Veterinarian, VMD

Dr. Johnson especially enjoys surgery, educating owners and children on how to keep their pets healthy, the fun of puppy and kitten visits, and making elderly patients feel like puppies and kittens again.   He has had post graduate training in endoscopy, ultrasound,  laser surgery and reptile medicine.

Dr Johnson is a member of the Noblemen, a philanthropic organization which raises money for special needs children in the Tidewater area.  He is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.  He loves to surf fish and is a member of the Virginia Beach Anglers Club.  He also enjoys writing.  He recently finished his first Fantasy novel, which he hopes to have published.  The Johnson's have a Golden Retriever named "Chloe".

We have the most caring and amazingly wonderful staff members here at Birdneck Animal Hospital.  I am very lucky to be surrounded by such a fantastic crew.  Please feel free to stop by with or without your pet to meet us.

Veterinary Technician L.V.T.

My name is Kelley Mitchell L.V.T.   I began with Birdneck Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant in June of 1999.   I graduated from Blue Ridge Community College and received my degree as a licensed veterinary technician in May of 2006.  I am a member of the Virginia Association of Licensed Veterinary Technicians.  I have also become licensed as a wildlife rehabilitator specializing in mammals.  My favorite part of my job is making a difference.  When I leave the veterinary hospital and know I have helped make a pet more comfortable, aided in a diagnosis, or even helped to save a life I feel like I have truly done my job.

I currently have two cats:  Kilo (a DLH) and Emmie ( a DSH), a rat terrier named Toby, a freshwater fish tank, two red eye tree frogs and a beta named Finnius Maximus the first.

My future plans are to continue working at Birdneck Animal Hospital.  I also hope to gain more experience with wildlife or perhaps the Virginia Zoo.

My name is Amy and I was born and raised here in Virginia Beach.   My background is actually in Graphic Design which I studied for 4 years at Longwood University in Farmville, VA. However, I have always had a passion for animals and my recent experience in the veterinary field has made me consider going back to school to become a Vet Tech. My husband and I have three pets of our own: Lucy (DSH), Lincoln (DSH - adopted from Animal Control in August 2011), and Godzilla (bearded dragon).

ShawnQwashawnda

My name is Qwashawnda Banks and I grew up in Chesterfield, Virginia. My experience and background is in recruitment, staffing and management. After leaving Corporate America to spend more time with my family as a homemaker, I was blessed with the opportunity to work with Birdneck Animal Hospital as an  Assistant/Receptionist. I've been working with the Birdneck family since May 1, 2011 and enjoy assisting the Doctor and Techs with the day-to-day duties and responsibilities. I look forward to continuing to develop my skills and experience as an Assistant/Receptionist and one day would like to pursue a career as a Vet Tech. I currently have two pets (DSH - Coby and Cocker Spaniel - LaLa) and enjoy spending all my free time with my husband and babies (pets) and family.
