Every pet owner wants to feed their pet a balanced and nutritious diet. It can become quite confusing though, when there seems to be a new diet promoted every day. These advertisements often tout claims of corn free, no meat by products, organic, holistic, all natural, premium and more. These claims are usually just a ploy to sell more of their brand of food. Corn is actually a great source of vitamins and fiber! If a pet food includes liver (an excellent source of vitamins and liver with a flavor most pets love) in it's preparation, it must be listed as a meat by product. So, not all meat by product labeling should turn you away. As for the other claims, there are no standardized and enforced definitions for what these terms mean. So how should a pet owner decide? Ask your veterinarian! We are here to help you to make decisions based on each individual pet's needs. Dr. Johnson has had many years experience, many hours of continuing education, and has had lots of feedback from many pet owners concerning how pets do on different diets.
