On Sept. 11, 2011 a ceremony will be held in Liberty State Park, New Jersey. It will honor the working-dog teams who arrived at the World Trade Center and the other sites and toiled in awful and dangerous conditions. No pay, no real recognition; they did it because the need was there. Many of those dogs that worked in the chaos after the attack, now old and retired, will walk in a processional lined by hundreds of current working-dog teams as part of the observance. Imagine that scene: noble old heroes, walking slowly, probably a little lamely, graying in the muzzle, flanked by those that carry on the tradition.
