UPDATE to February 2011 Post:
In February a young Lhasa Apso named Toby was recently presented to the Birdneck Animal Hospital with a severe deep infection of the skin over much of his body. The infection improved a little on antibiotics, but remained very serious and extremely uncomfortable for the dog. The owner was frustrated and felt that he had to put his pet to sleep in order to stop the suffering. Dr. Johnson diagnosed Toby as having Demodectic mites, which is a type of noninfectious mange. When treatment for the mites was combined with medicated baths and antibiotics the little fellow started to rapidly improve. He looks and feels just great now.
The owner was moving and was unable to take his wonderful little friend with him. The Birdneck Animal Hospital contacted The K-9 Justice League, which is a non-profit organization that helps place dogs in foster homes until a suitable owner can be found. Toby is presently happily receiving treatment for his mites in his foster home.
The latest news is that our lovable Toby has been renamed to "Obidias" and is very happy in his new home. Thanks K-Nine Justice League! We love a happy ending!
